Congrats Terrence. You are definitely worthy of the title. Maybe someday I'll get the chance to meet all of you guys!
Thanks Chuck! I think it would be great for everyone to meet. We all should get together and have a "PSMGC Smoke a Thon"
I am in on a smokathon once I figure out how to transport my rig!
Happy smoking to all!!!
Hey Geno, I know you use gas, but what kind of setup do you have?
I use a propane grill converted to natural gas. I would need a hookup setup. I would be there anyway. I would just make my stuff up ahead of time and bring it.
Happy smoking to all!!!
That's right, I forgot. No backups? Back in the 80's in Dolton, my grandfather had a nat gas hookup. The gas line runs into the grill through the ground right. Big round pipe coming out of the ground into the base of the grill? That's how I remember his.I am all for the smokeathon.
We can still get one in before the snow hits. Ideas? We've wanted to do a smoke a thon for a year now. Just make sure there are no MSU home games so Chuck can come. Priorities, you know.
We can host it at my place,I have plenty of room, and other than tailgating in South Bend, I am home every weekend, but I know that other than the Homewood fellas, everyone else is pretty much up north. Tim, you still up for it?
I am a part-time MSU fan, so football is not a consideration. I got my obligatory football game/visit with the kid in September. Let me know if the planets line up!
Yep, I'm still in. I offered to host awhile back and it still stands.
I'm definitely off the wagon this week and returning to smoky bliss on Sunday. Haven't finalized the menu this week, but the plan is to hit the yard one more time, pull out the tomato stakes and let the billowing begin.
I took the base of my smoker to the Bears game last night and used it as a Smoky Joe. I noticed one of the "legs" is almost rusted out, so I'll be in the market for a new one real soon. Poor guy ... he's had a helluva run.
No, I didn't tailgate on the Golden Gate bridge (though I'd have jumped off it after that pathetic display of crap). I meant I took the base of the smoker to the Bears game last WEEK.
If you want to do it up there or down here, it really doesn't make a difference to me. I'm in either way. Yeah, Cutler threw that int to end the game, but he should NEVER have been in that position to begin with! Did the O line even travel with the team? They sure as heck didn't show up last night!
Hey Tim, I am at Menards, and they have a black Grill Pro smoker that looks like yours, witha temp gauge that goes from 100 degrees to 600, for 44bucks. They don't have one on display here, so not sure how good it is. Just thought you would like to know.
Thanks! I'm guessing the Grill Pro doesn't have a detachable charcoal pan, but I do like the thermometer reading. Mine doesn't have that, but I've done enough to know how much charcoal heats to what. Had to use an oven thermometer and put it on the top grate the first few times.
FYI: My green smoker (and Jeff H's) is pictured in dueling action on the right of this page.
Check out this link, it is the same thing, except made for Bass Pro Shops:

Same one as the one I saw at Menards I ment, I think the charcoal pan does come out, but yours looks more sturdy. I'm no expert on those types of smokers. I never even cooked on one.
Tim, if you bring me the old smoker I can weld up rusted legs and have you in business with old dependable in no time! I only live a half mile away. Let me know.
Happy smoking to all!!!
I have a nice chunk o beef in the fridge soakin up some seasoning and getting ready to soak up the smoke tomorrow. Anyone else have any meaty plans for tomorrow? Post em so we can all enjoy some great ideas.
happy smoking to all!!!
Thanks, Geno! I'll definitely take advantage of the offer.
