Planked Salmon - Wood is Good!!

Something popped into my head yesterday when trying to decide what to make for Sunday's dinner. My Pathetic Suburban (Fe)Male was looking at some pictures from this summer and suggested that we have a repeat of something that was a big hit - grilled salmon along with a tomato salad. One of the other blogs that I enjoy reading is Another Pint, Please, just because it discusses subjects that are near and dear to my heart; namely good beer, homebrewing, and grilling. Anyway, there was a post a few weeks ago devoted to grilling on wood planks. Suddenly I remembered that there were a few planks that I had received as a gift some time ago, but never had put to the fire. What better time than today to give it a try?

The cedar plank was soaked in water for 1-1/2 hours in preparation for the inaugural voyage. The salmon was placed on top and off it went into the Weber. Cooked directly over the coals for about 10 minutes, then off to the side to finish indirect.  Drizzled a little bit of balsamic glaze on top at the end, had to make that by reducing some good balsamic vinegar until syrupy. I must say that the results were excellent!

The tomato salad was a nice side. Tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, olive oil, kosher salt and black pepper, along with some fresh mozzarella.

Looks like the planks are here to stay!!

Thanks Mike. I like seeing what other people are up to, sometimes that's the "nudge" I need to try something new. Want to try some of those Sam Adams you have posted, especially that Tasman Red Ale!
