Saturday, August 3rd was a glorious day by all accounts. The weather couldn't have been nicer, certainly better than last year, when we endured 60 mph winds and torrential downpours at the height of the festivities. Defending champion Tom F. was on hand to defend his crown against eight other competitors, all capable of taking home the pig.
Jim H. of Homewood Chilifest fame threw his hat into the ring as a first-time participant. The usual suspects were also there; Larry V.H., Stash S., Hank B, Dave S, Joe T., Sandy S., and myself. It was split evenly between Weber kettles and smokers, with Hank B. using a "repaired" Brinkman smoker (charcoal pan failure) that was worthy of a spot on "There - I Fixed it".
No one was more surprised than Joe T., who was declared the 2013 Homewood Riboff Champion!! Tom F. placed second, with Hank B. and Sandy S. in a tie for third place. It was fitting that Joe's ribs just happened to be that the "1" spot on the sampling plate. All of the entries were just excellent, it gets harder each year to make a run at the vaunted trophy.
Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Stash for hosting all of us, I know how much work you put into getting your house and yard ready to have this annual event. Jim H., thanks for trying your hand at this controlled nonsense, hope to see you back next year!
Sooo...Joe, what's going on the placard next to your name? As always, the others in attendance were MORE than happy to provide a few suggestions...
"Stack 'em up Joe"
“Get back Joe Joe”
“Dazed and Confused Joe”
“J Roc Joe”
“Say it Ain’t So, Joe”
“Joe Joe got the MoJoe”
Any of these help? Didn't think so.
